Jasper
Hello,
Just a little note to update you on Our newest Family Member "Jasper" AKA: Drummer. We adopted him at at the Petco in Hilton Head, SC area last weekend, and he has been a wonderful addition. He is now King of the Castle here and adapting well. He was litter trained and uses the new scratch pad reguarlly. He is well adjusted, very affectionate and has a great temperment. Just wanted to say thanks for making our weekend vacation brighter.
Warm Regards, Lori and Evan
Zachary
Meet Zachary. One of three shy puppies that found forever homes through JARM. Although still a little shy with new acquaintances, Zachary will eventually become your friend. He loves to chase after his toys, is terrified of leaping bull frogs, and still collects sticks on his walk.
His best friends are Luigi, Missy and Sneakers (his two companion dogs and best friend – a cat) and has completed intermediate obedience and will tackle agility in the fall. He is a much loved addition to our family and radiates pure joy in all he does. We could not imagine our lives without the big boy.
Marvin
Hi there, my name is Marvin. I just had to tell everyone how JARM saved my life and give them a big thank you!
My story starts with Ms. Helen McCracken. Everyone calls her "Animal Control" ...ugh... but I like to think of her as the nice lady who rescues us strays, and brings us to the shelter. Well, she found me at a dumpster by the Savannah River and brought me to safety. JARM made me wait 5 days before putting me up for adoption. Something about the law, but I knew no one would come looking for me.
I was so relieved at first, and tried so hard to be a good boy. I mean, they gave me shelter and a full belly every day! But, my past kept haunting me. I never told anyone about it, and now have almost been able to put it out of my mind-- but it was really really scary! Then I heard the JARM staff talking to my trainer Carol Adams about if I was even adoptable! Puh-lease! Did they look at this face?
Well, OK, to be fair, I was overly excited, growled a lot and didn't much like the other dogs. To say that i was "a handful" was putting it mildly. Thank goodness they were able to figure out that I was feeling a little claustrophobic, so they moved me to a kennel that was open on all four sides and got me "fixed" (like I was broken)! Well, maybe a little. This really helped me calm down and relax, but the past reared its ugly head again and I got possessive of my toys and treats. I even freaked out when strangers got their hands near my face. Carol said I had trust issues and worked really hard with me on that, and my new BFF Karen who works at the shelter helped a lot!! I guess Karen couldn't resist my boyish charms, so she took me home. Yippeee! A home!
My awful past fades a little more every day. Karen takes me on not one, but TWO walks every day. I have this GI-normous back yard and so many toys. My faves are my big blue beach ball and a cool hula hoop from Carol. I'm learning lots of new stuff too. I'm way past sit and lay down. Now I can "give me five" with both front paws, and am patiently learning to "wait". I'm even beginning to kinda like the cat she has hanging around here. I figure soon I will earn that frisbee she's been promising me! That's why I am sming so BIG!
Love to JARM,
Marvin
